Hanover, Transy to Meet at University Club

Transylvania University ’s women’s golf team will be hosting the Transy Invitational on Sept. 27. Hanover College will also be participating at the invitational to be held at the University Club.

The Pioneers are coming off a tremendous showing at the Centre Invitational held at the Danville Country Club in Danville, Ky. Transylvania finished in second place as a team behind some strong individual performances at the 18-hole tournament. Sophomore Rhea Badgett ( Madisonville, Ky.) placed sixth individually with a round of 84. Junior Laura Pyles ( Frankfort, Ky.) also finished in the top-ten grabbing eighth place with an 85. Badgett is currently ranked sixth in the conference in scoring average (84). Pyles is 12th with an 89.75 stroke average.

Hanover will be looking to continue its strong play following last weekend’s fifth place team finish at the Hanover Invitational. The Panthers finished with a team score of 764 and were led by sophomore Meredith Johns ( Winchester, Ky.) who fired a two-day total of 175 to place tenth individually. Johns is also ranked tenth in the conference in scoring average this season.

No HCAC player had a better weekend then Franklin sophomore Katie Tewell ( Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove). She helped Franklin to a ninth-place team finish at the 23-team Illinois Wesleyan Classic by establishing two, new school records. Tewell was the medalist at the 136-player tournament and shot a new Franklin single-round record of 67 on the second day. She finished with a 137 to break the Grizzlies record for two-day total as well. The score allowed her to post a nine-stroke victory. Tewell is leading the conference with a 70.75 scoring average. Sophomores Andrea Lindner and Rachel Hadley ( Monticello, Ind./Twin Lakes) are also among the leaders in conference scoring average. Lindner is averaging 83.75 strokes per round while Hadley is seventh in the conference at 84.50 strokes. Franklin will be traveling to the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagle Classic on Sept. 25-26.

Also competing this week will be the College of Mount St. Joseph. The Lions will be traveling to the Ohio Northern Invitational to compete at Colonial. Senior Lauren Hessel ( Cincinati, Ohio/Oak Hills) posted a personal-best 91 in the first round of the Hanover Invitational last weekend. Hessel finished in 27th place with a two-day score of 197. She was the only Mount golfer to compete last weekend.

Anderson and Manchester are not in action this week. Manchester will again be in action at the Hope Invitational on Sept. 29. Anderson will return at the Manchester Invitational on Oct. 1.
