May 16, 2008 (Transy Release)

BRASELTON, GA - Transylvania just missed a top 10 finish, turning in an 11th-place showing Friday in the final round of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships at the Chateau Elan Resort.

The Pioneers got as high as seventh on the leader board during Thursday's third-round. They finished 12th last year in their first appearance in NCAA Championship play and moved up one spot this year. They missed a top 10 finish by 13 shots.

Transy finished a stroke ahead of Mt. Union and Illinois Wesleyan at 1,234.

Junior Bradley Sutherland, who finished 11th a year ago and began Friday's final round in a tie for ninth, had another top 20 performance. He carded a seven-over par 78 to finish in a tie for 15th with a total of 300, 16 over par. Sutherland was also selected to the Division III Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar Team.

Playing on the Chateau Course, Transy's best score of the day was turned in by sophomore Matthew Martin, who turned in a five-over par 76. He was six over par over his final two rounds.

Corey Maggard fired an eight-over par 79 while Alex Rectin notched his second straight 78, and Greg Turcotte had an 81. At 311, Maggard was 57th while Martin was 68th at 312. Rechtin was 78th at 315 and Turcotte's total of 321 left him in 103rd place. Turcotte joined Sutherland as a member of the DIII Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar Team.

In medalist play, Scott Harris Jr. of St. John Fisher was the winner and the only individual under par for the tourney. Chris Green of Illinois Wesleyan was second and Ross Canavan of Redlands third.

The final team standings saw St. John's overtake St. John Fisher for the team title. Redlands, St. John Fisher, Methodist, and Skidmore rounded out the top five.
