June 25, 2008 (Rose Release)
TERRE HAUTE , IN -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Rachel Krasich (Westfield) earned third-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American honors in results released today by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Krasich was one of 15 individuals named to the College Division Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Third Team from over 600 NCAA Division II, III and NAIA institutions across the nation. A total of just 45 student-athletes from the 600 institutions were named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans for their competitive and academic efforts.
For her efforts, Krasich earned the 76th Academic All-American in school history and helps continue a streak of 23 consecutive years that at least one Fightin' Engineer has been named a CoSIDA Academic All-American, marking the sixth longest active streak of any institution in the nation.
Krasich became the first women's national qualifier in Rose-Hulman sports history with her cross country efforts last fall. She placed in the top half of the 2008 NCAA Division III Championships after finishing 11th in the Division III Regional. Her cross country efforts include school records for the five (18:54) and six (22:06) kilometer races.
In track and field, Krasich has established seven school records and was the 3,000-meter steeplechase champion at the 2008 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference meet.
In the classroom, Krasich compiled a 3.90 grade point average with a double major of chemistry and biochemistry and molecular biology.
