Seven HCAC Track and Field Athletes Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Teams

GREENWOOD , IN - Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's Thomas Reives (Indianapolis , Ind. /Tech) and Rachel Krasich (Westfield , Ind. /H.S.) and Defiance 's Eric Swartz (Tiffin , Ohio /Calvert) and Brad Zarembski (Toledo , Ohio / Springfield ) have all been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Track and Field First team.
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's Michael Burris (Terre Haute , Ind. /North) , Mount St. Joseph's Maria Ruebusch (Loveland, Ohio/H.S.) , and Defiance's Samantha Higdon (Waldron, Ind./H.S.) were selected to their District's Track and Field Second team.
Rose-Hulman senior Thomas Reives is a Mechanical Engineering major, posting a 3.98 grade point average. He placed first at the HCAC meet in the long jump and set an HCAC triple jump record with a leap of 14.17 meters, earning the 2008 HCAC Field Athlete of the Year award.
Rachel Krasich, a senior for Rose-Hulman, is majoring in Chemistry/Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and had a 3.90 GPA. She placed first in the 3000 meter steeplechase and second in the 5000 meter run at the 2008 HCAC Championships.
Defiance senior Eric Swartz is an Accounting and Finance major and had a 3.88 grade point average. He finished the 2008 HCAC Championships placing fourth in the 110 meter hurdles and third in the pole vault respectively.
Zarembski, a sophomore athlete for Defiance , is majoring in Business Administration and earned a 3.91 grade point average. The sophomore placed first in the high jump at the HCAC meet and has a bright future for the Jackets.
Michael Burris, a sophomore for Rose-Hulman, is majoring in Mechanical Engineering and had a 3.91 grade point average. At the conference meet, the sophomore placed first in the 110 meter hurdles and a close second in the 400 meter hurdles.
Mount St. Joseph sophomore Maria Ruebusch, is a Graphic Design major and had a perfect 4.00 GPA. The sophomore from Loveland , Ohio placed second in the triple jump and third in the long jump at the HCAC meet.
Higdon, a sophomore from Defiance , is majoring in Accounting and also finished with a perfect 4.00 grade point average. The sophomore from Waldron , Indiana placed second in the hammer throw at the conference meet.
The ESPN The Magazine All-Academic Teams are chosen by Sports Information Directors that are members of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
