Transylvania Claims First Ever HCAC Women's Golf Title

TERRE HAUTE , IN - Transylvania University 's women's golf team rolled to claim the school's first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship on Sunday afternoon, earning the conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA championships to be held in May. The Pioneers totaled a 705 on the team leader board, finishing 22 strokes ahead of second place Manchester College , who finished with a 727.

Rose-Hulman's Stephanie Harrington (Houston , Tex. /Cinco Ranch) earned medalist and HCAC Most Valuable Player honors for the first time. Harrington finished with a 162, posting an 84 and a 78 in her two rounds.

Transylvania placed two members on the All-HCAC team. Janca Millett (Louisville , Ky. /Sacred Heart) finished in second place overall with a two-day score of 164, earning Freshman of the Year honors. Freshman Megan Foley (Lexington , Ky. /Christian) came in third position after carding a 170.

Transylvania placed two other golfers in the top 15 of the 37 player field. Senior Brittany Daulton (Somerset, Ky./Pulaski Co.) finished ninth with a 182, while last year's Freshman of the Year Megan Graeter (Louisville, Ky./Butler) finished 15 th with a two-round total of 189.

Joining Harrington, Millett, and Foley on the All-HCAC team by virtue of finishing in the top eight of the individual standings were Manchester 's Stacey Goins and Erica Hahn, Franklin 's Grace Adams and Brittany Stephens, and Hanover 's Molly Burpo.

Defending champion Franklin placed third in the tournament with a total score of 731. Hanover was awarded fourth place on Sunday, shooting a 738. Rose-Hulman, Anderson , and Defiance rounded out the team standings, firing a 746, 770, and 858 respectively.

Transylvania head coach Mark Turner was also honored by being named the HCAC Coach of the Year for the first time.
