Hanover Claims Regular Season Women's Tennis HCAC Crown

TERRE HAUTE, IN- Hanover College's women's tennis team wrapped up the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's regular-season championship with a 5-4 victory against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The Panthers' HCAC finale was played, Saturday, Oct. 4, in Terre Haute, Ind.
Hanover posted wins in two of the three opening doubles matches, then claimed victories in three singles matches to earn the Panthers' first league crown since 2001. Hanover (8-0 HCAC) will be the top seed in the HCAC's four-team post-season tournament, Oct. 17, at the West Indy Racquet Club in Indianapolis, Ind.
The winner earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III national tournament in the spring.
Senior Madison Basch (Southport, Ind.), sophomore Angela Parry-Lemon (Columbia City, Ind.) and freshmen Allie Gullett (Lexington, Ky.) and Brittany Batson (Wilmington, Ohio) gave Hanover an early edge with doubles wins against Rose-Hulman.
Parry-Lemon and Gullett handled the Engineers' Kristin Wilson and Katy Zawadski, 8-2, at No. 2. Basch and Batson paired to hold off Maritza Gonzalez and Caitlin Kohli, 8-5, at No. 3.
In singles play, senior Ali Gantz (Greenwood, Ind.), Parry-Lemon and Gullett each posted victories to nail down the Panthers' regular-season title.
Gantz handled the Engineers' Megan Chann, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2. Parry-Lemon edged Zawadski, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 3. Gullett defeated Betsy Marshand, 6-2, 6-0.
