Mount St. Joseph 's Katie Playko Honored as HCAC Women's Player of the Month

GREENWOOD , IN - Mount St. Joseph 's Katie Playko (Norwalk , Ohio / St. Paul ) has been named September's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Player of the Month. The senior volleyball standout has been instrumental in propelling the Lions to a No. 21 national ranking and a 16-5 overall record through September matches.
The Mount stands No. 21 in the latest AVCA Coaches Top 25 poll and held a 1-0 conference record at the end of the month. Playko has been named to the All-Tournament Team in each of the Mount's five tournaments they have competed in this season, which include tournaments hosted by Ohio Northern, Wittenberg , Capital, and the Mount.
The senior setter was named the Tournament MVP at the Ohio Northern Invitational after posting 292 assists, 59 digs, and a .577 hitting percentage during the tournament. She was also named the HCAC Player of the Week for her efforts at Ohio Northern.
Through September, Playko has played in all 78 games of the Mount's 21 matches. She has a total of 727 assists, 151 digs, 59 kills, 28 blocks, 16 aces, and a .316 hitting percentage. Playko led the HCAC through September in assists per game (9.32).
Katie is the second Mount female athlete to be named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Month, and is the first volleyball player to earn the award.
The HCAC Player of the Month award is in its fourth year of existence. The award is voted on by the sports information directors of each member institution.
