Mount's Kelly Bare Named HCAC Women's Soccer Most Valuable Player

GREENWOOD , IN - College of Mount St. Joseph's Kelly Bare (Cincinnati , Ohio /Colerain) has been named the 2008 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer Most Valuable Player. The senior goalkeeper helped guide the Lions to the school's fourth HCAC championship and earn a bid into the NCAA Division III women's soccer tournament.
Bare was a force in the net for the Lions this season, allowing only nine goals in 20 games for MSJ. The senior led the HCAC and ranked among the national leaders in goals against average (0.44) and save percentage (.880) this fall, anchoring the Mount St. Joseph defense. In over 1,800 minutes in net this season, Bare has totaled 66 saves and a 14-4-2 record.
The Lions standout broke a Mount school record with 14 total shutouts this season and also holds MSJ career goaltending records with 39 games played and 23 shutouts. Bare ranks third all-time on the Mount saves list with 144 saves in her career.
The HCAC has also announced the 2008 Freshman of the Year. Manchester 's Kendra Getz (West Harrison , Ind./Oldenburg Academy) earned the award for her efforts during her rookie season. Getz tallied two goals and four assists for the Spartans, helping the black and gold claim a 5-3 conference record and berth in the HCAC tournament championship game.
Mount St. Joseph head coach Carrie Taylor has been named the 2008 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Taylor led the Lions to a 14-4-2 overall record and an 8-0 record in conference play, claiming their fourth HCAC regular season title. The Lions earned the conference tournament championship and a berth into the NCAA Division III tournament. Taylor will guide the Mount into NCAA tournament action this weekend against No. 4 Calvin on Nov. 14 in Grand Rapids , Michigan .

Wayne, Ind.), Stephanie Taylor (Sr., Greenwood, Ind.), and Stephanie Phillips (Sr., Indianapolis, Ind.), Mount St. Joseph's Beth Schuermann (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio), Allie Pirman (Sr., Amelia, Ohio), Laurie Neumann (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio), and Shannon Nortman (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio), Rose-Hulman's Molly Richardson (So., Orange Park, Fla.), Jen Lyman (Sr., Irwin, Pa.), Liz Ridgway (Sr., Grosse Point, Mich.), and Eli Baca (So., Santa Fe, N.M.), and Transylvania's Katie Kelly (Jr., Lexington, Ky.) and Katie McKelway (Jr., Lexington, Ky.).
