HCAC Celebrating 10th Anniversary with "Decade of Excellence"

August 21, 2008

GREENWOOD , IN - This coming fall, the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference will begin a celebration of a decade of excellence as the conference holds its 10th anniversary.

Before the 1998-1999 school year, the former Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference became the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference as the conference saw some significant changes in membership. Current members Bluffton University and the College of Mount St. Joseph joined original ICAC members and current HCAC members Anderson University, Franklin College, Hanover College, and Manchester College to form the HCAC.

Defiance College joined the league in the spring of 2000, while Transylvania University began its membership in January of 2001. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology joined the HCAC in July of 2006 to become the conference's ninth member.

The conference is releasing a "Decade of Excellence" logo in celebration of 10 years as a NCAA Division III conference. This logo commemorates the conference's aspiration to seek growth and excellence on and off the playing field during the past decade, as well as in the years to come.

During the 10 year span, current HCAC members have produced 26 CoSIDA ESPN the Magazine Academic All-Americans, 104 All-Americans, and 84 national qualifiers.

HCAC institutions have served as a host to 10 NCAA regional events and three NCAA Division III national championship events during the past decade. This November Hanover College will serve as host to the NCAA Division III cross country national championships, while Rose-Hulman will host the NCAA Division III indoor track and field championships in March.

The HCAC currently sponsors and receives an automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament in 16 NCAA Division III sports.

The 2008 fall season will get underway Friday, August 29.
