Defiance vs. Trine Football Game Featured on ESPN Radio
September 18, 2008 (Defiance Release)
DEFIANCE, OH- The Defiance College football team found itself in the national spotlight on Thursday morning, after being selected as the unknown game of the week by ESPN Radio's "Mike and Mike in the Morning".
The show was aired nationally on ESPN 2 and could be heard live around the world on www.ESPNRadio.com, as well as on the radio throughout the country on local ESPN Radio affiliates. Archived footage of the show will also be available at the "Mike and Mike in the Morning" website..
Mike and Mike previewed the game between Defiance and Trine before having a competition to see who could name the game. Nominations from fans included, "The Black Swamp Swashbuckle", "The Storm versus the Swarm", "Unrest in the Midwest", "The Rumble in the Hive" and "The Better than the Bengals Football Extravaganza". After reviewing all of the choices, Mike and Mike officially tabbed the DC showdown with Trine on Saturday as "The Clash of Mother Nature's Wrath."
The game naming segment began last week because the Ohio State and USC game was officially hyped as "The Collision at the Coliseum", and co-hosts Mike Golic and Mike Greenberg thought it would be tougher to name a lesser known game. They selected Maine and Stony Brook and touted it as "The Battle for the Butter".
"Mike and Mike in the Morning" will recap Saturday's game on their Monday morning show with video highlights and an interview with the head coach from the winning team.
Fans are encouraged to bring signs to the game on Saturday promoting "The Clash of Mother Nature's Wrath" and "Mike and Mike in the Morning". Kickoff is set for 1:30 pm, at Coressel Stadium.
