HCAC Players of the Week for the week ending September 28...

Men's Cross Country- Andy Williams, Manchester College

Manchester College 's Andy Williams (Middlebury , Ind. /Northridge) helped the Spartans cross country team finish 10th at the Otterbein Pre-Regional meet and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second time. The junior finished 25th overall out of 297 runners, completing the 8 K course in a time of 25:57. The Spartans placed 10th out of 21 schools.

   

Women's Cross Country- Megan Miller, Manchester College

Manchester College 's Megan Miller (Goshen , Ind. /Northridge) led the women's cross country team to a 10th place finish at the Otterbein Pre-Regional meet and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second time. The sophomore runner finished 13th overall out of 280 runners, completing the 5 K course in a time of 23:00. MC placed 10th out of 23 schools.

   

Football: Offense - Calvin Bueltel, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology

Rose-Hulman running back Calvin Bueltel (Huntingburg , Ind. /Southridge) rushed for a career-high 168 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries as the Engineers surprised Mount St. Joseph with a 27-21 win, earning the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Player of the Week award on offense. The junior scored on runs of 10 and two yards during the win, and added a 44 yard run on the final drive to help Rose run out the clock. Bueltel currently leads the HCAC in rushing, averaging 95.2 yards per game. RHIT (3-1, 1-0 HCAC) will return home for a date with Manchester (2-1) Saturday.

   

Football: Defense - Paul Spreen, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology

Rose-Hulman defensive lineman Paul Spreen (Williams, Ind./Bedford North Lawrence) led the Engineers' defense in a 27-21 road win against Mount St. Joseph and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Player of the Week on defense. The senior lineman recorded eight tackles in the win and recovered a fourth quarter fumble that helped Rose-Hulman secure the conference opening win at MSJ. Spreen ranks second on the team with 32 tackles this season and currently leads the conference with 10.5 tackles for loss.

   

Football: Special Teams- Jonathan Thompson, Bluffton University

Bluffton University 's Jonathan Thompson (Carmel , Ind. /H.S.) scored 11 points in the Beavers' 23-15 win against Kalamazoo and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Player of the Week on special teams. The junior kicker made field goals from 18, 32, and 24 yards during the win and converted both extra points. Thompson ranks second in the HCAC with three field goals made this season. Bluffton (1-2) will open conference play at home against Mount St. Joseph Saturday afternoon.

   

Women's Golf - Stephanie Harrington, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's Stephanie Harrington (Houston, Texas/Cinco Ranch) finished 13th overall at the DePauw University Invitational this past weekend and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Week for the second time. The junior fired rounds of 80 and 82 to lead all HCAC golfers at the event, helping Rose to an eighth place finish in the 13 team event.

   

Women's Tennis- Katie Fleschner, Hanover College

Hanover College 's Katie Fleschner (Terre Haute , Ind. /North) posted wins at No. 1 singles and doubles as the Panthers moved to 5-0 in HCAC action and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week. The senior won at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-2 and teamed with Ali Gantz to post an 8-4 victory in No. 1 doubles, leading the Panthers to a 9-0 win against Defiance . Hanover (5-2, 5-0 HCAC) will compete in a highly competitive tri-match this weekend as the Panthers will take on Franklin (5-0 HCAC) and Rose-Hulman (5-1 HCAC) in Terre Haute .

   

Men's Soccer- Nate Flath, Bluffton University

Bluffton's Nate Flath (Wadsworth , Ohio /H.S.) helped the Beavers to a 2-0 record last week and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week. The senior midfielder came off the bench to score a goal and dish out three assists in a 10-1 win over Taylor-Ft. Wayne to begin the week. Flath netted two goals in BU's HCAC opener at Mount St. Joseph , delivering Bluffton a 3-2 win. The Wadsworth , Ohio native currently ranks second in the league with 14 points and four goals scored this season. The Beavers (4-3-1, 1-0 HCAC) will travel to Anderson (4-7, 2-0 HCAC) Saturday.

   

Women's Soccer- Molly Richardson, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology

Rose-Hulman sophomore Molly Richardson (Orange Park , Fla. /St. John's Country Day) scored the game-winning goal in the Engineers' 3-2 overtime win over Hanover and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week. Richardson scored in overtime to lead the Engineers to a 3-2 win against Hanover , moving to 1-1 in conference action. The sophomore added a goal and an assist in RHIT's 7-0 win against Spalding in non-conference play. Rose (6-3, 1-1 HCAC) will face a tough test on the road against Mount St. Joseph (5-3-1, 1-0 HCAC) Saturday afternoon.

   

Volleyball- Kristen Nicely, Defiance College

Defiance 's Kristen Nicely (Defiance , Ohio /Ayersville) helped the Yellow Jackets post two road conference victories and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the second time. The freshman hitter notched her third career double-double with 19 kills, 11 digs, four blocks, and a .364 hitting percentage in DC's five-set win at HCAC defending champion Hanover. Nicely helped the Jackets to a 3-0 sweep of Franklin with 14 kills, three blocks, and a .440 hitting percentage. Defiance (10-8, 2-0 HCAC) will welcome No. 23 Mount St. Joseph for a crucial HCAC contest Saturday morning.
